This happens when the inlet needle becomes dirty/defective or the float get damaged/out of adjustment. Those are the only ways to get gas out of the carb vent line. Either way this can be very bad for your engine. Don't run the bike until this gets fixed.

She runs good with the cold air but the milage dropd to about 61-63 mpg. the vacume operated petcocks have a rubber diapham that engine vacume pulls to one side of the chamber allowing fuel to flow. The diapham can go bad and leak even with the petcock in off. There should be an OEM repair package for it. (for me anyway) I would guess that you could pretty safely run 30 miles after hitting reserve in whichever season. I hit reserve around 125-135 in the winter and 150-160 in the summer.
