Imagine if you are an inactive player returning, you can resume in your previous guild without need for another invite. These would easily make the 1000 guild member limit high enough and guild maintenance would be much easier. No more need for alts-guilds. On a reasonably well populated server, you're likely to be invited to join a few, eventually. You could also walk up to someone in a guild and just ask them.
